New comic and a Brilliant Game.

Note to self:

Never tell Elijah that the priority on a project is low. Cause you'll NEVER GET IT BACK.

Anyway, comic is up, finally.

Demo Men Review: Trine

I don't often find myself speechless about a video game. Not when so many are bland-y mush spoon fed to us because it appeals to the mass market.

And yet... Trine.

I had very few complaints on this one when I started, but as I kept playing, they seemed pretty nit-pickey. But still, worth mentioning.

The art is beautiful. It's colourful, and gripping. The character design is a little cliched, but still, pretty darn nice. But then again, when every other game is a grey and brown cluster-fuck of grittiness, I tend to favor kindly to the over saturated colours of a disney film.

The story, seems kinda silly, but it is a fantasy title, so... you know. I don't blame it. I can, however, blame the lame and boring ass cut scenes. They almost made me turn the game off, so something is clearly wrong there. But once the tired narrative passed by, I found it was a small price for the gameplay.

You have three characters to choose from, The old fart womanizing wizard, The blatantly sexy thief, or the fat retard knight. Seriously. Like I said, the characters are a bit cliched and stereotypical. But that's fine, cause they all add to the story... erm, scratch that. Add to the gameplay.

The Knight is good for fighting the baddies and breaking all their shit.

The Wizard can create blocks and use the force to move some items in order to solve physics puzzles.

The Thief looks hot all the time. Like, so hot.

Oh, and she has a grappling hook, which make her the most fun to play as.

I do, however have a problem with the controls. The game mechanics worked fine, but sometimes blocking as the knight, or trying to summon a box as the wizard, the unintuitive-ness of the mouse/keyboard combo caused problems. I've been told hooking up a noob-stick fixes that for the most part, but fuck that.

A major saving grace for the game is the freedom you can only find in a side scroller. Often times the game is like, "Here's a puzzle. Solve it to continue," and I'm all like, "No, fuck your puzzle." and use a combonation of the wizard's magic blocks and the theifs grappling hook to avoid the puzzle.

The best part is the game's like, "Oh. Sure, forget about it, then." and doesn't punish you for it. Thank you, Trine. Thank you for being a wimp enough for me to avoid performing tasks intended to create an enjoyable, challenging experience.

Also the thief's bow, sucks. The bow is useless. The grappling hook is crazy fun, the bow is useless. So... it's a trade off, but still, when the baddies arrive, I immediately switch to the knight.

Additionally, I've heard that the graphics get slow and chop a bit, even running on a PC God himself would own, but that's just a rumor I heard. I'm sure by the time you read this, a patch will be out.

But while you're waiting for that, can I suggest Prototype?
